by Laura Shoemaker (age 7, second grade, written 12/98)

I was once walking in the woods until it started to rain. But it was not the kind of rain that would usually fall. It was different. I was amazed at what I saw! The rain was half snow and half rain. I ran home to tell my mom, but the car wasn't there and the door was locked.

Then suddenly a miracle happened. An angel stood before me. My eyes opened in amazement!

"Who are you?" I asked.

The angel replied, "I am one of God's helpers. God is my leader. God sent me here. My name is Laura! Just like yours."

My eyes got even wider! I asked the angel, "How did you get here?"

The angel replied, "I have wings. I fly like the other angels."

"You are an angel?" I asked.

"Yes, I am."

Suddenly my mouth opened in amazement! I could not believe that I was talking to a real angel. The angel told me to go back into the woods and try to figure it out by myself. Then suddenly the angel vanished. I was puzzled but I did what the angel told me. But the rain had stopped. I thought that God had sent it. Just then the angel came and said, "You're right. God sent it for you."

When I got home I saw my family yelling, "Welcome home!"

The end.
